Dr. Martin Schweizer to present on Burcon';s canola &; soy proteins

 VANCOUVER, May 21 /CNW/ - Burcon NutraScience Corporation (TSX-V: BU) announces today that Dr. Martin Schweizer, Manager Technical Development, will present at Bridge2Food's "Food Proteins Course 2009" taking place in Anaheim, California, USA on June 9 - 11, 2009. International speakers from a large number of globally recognized food and nutrition companies will address trends and developments in protein ingredients. Dr. Schweizer's presentation on Burcon's revolutionary acid soluble proteins follows the announcement in October 2008 that Burcon's canola proteins, Puratein(R) and Supertein(TM) were GRAS affirmed in the United States and our subsequent announcement in November 2008 of Burcon's new CLARISOY(TM) soy protein isolate. CLARISOY(TM) is 100% soluble and completely transparent in acidic solutions, enabling applications in ready to drink beverages ranging down to pH 2.5 and lower. CLARISOY(TM) lacks the traditional 'beany' taste of soy, giving beverages a cleaner flavour. The solubility and transparency of CLARISOY(TM) allows for its use in a wide variety of beverages where traditional soy isolates are not appropriate. Supertein(TM) is a canola protein isolate with functional properties including excellent solubility, the ability to form transparent solutions and foaming. Applications for Supertein(TM) include beverages, confectionery, aerated desserts, and protein bars, among many others.
