HARTFORD, Conn.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Aetna (NYSE: [ AET ]) a leading global diversified health care benefits company, announced today that Thad Burr has been appointed managing director of Latin America. In this new role, Burr is responsible for expanding the companyas business in Latin America and the Caribbean, including health and dental benefits; life and disability insurance; health care technology and analytics; and health management solutions.The appointment is effective immediately.

Burr, who will be based in Miami, joins Aetna from ACE Life, where as regional division president for Latin America he launched and managed the companyas life insurance business in nine countries in the region. Previously, he worked for MetLife, where he held several leadership positions, including establishing and directing the companyas Brazilian subsidiary.

In his more than 20 yearsa experience, Burr has managed operations in several countries in the Americas, including Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, in addition to English. Burr holds a B.A. in economics from Colby College in Maine and an M.B.A. from New York University.
