LCA-Vision Reports Fourth Quarter 2012 Procedure Volume -- CINCINNATI, Jan. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

CINCINNATI, Jan. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- LCA-Vision Inc. (NASDAQ: [ LCAV ]), a leading provider of laser vision correction services under the LasikPlus^® brand, today reported that 11,613 procedures were performed during the fourth quarter of 2012, compared with 14,205 procedures performed during the fourth quarter of 2011. 

"We believe that fourth quarter procedure volume was negatively impacted by consumer uncertainty about the "fiscal cliff" automatic tax increases and spending cuts, as well as by Hurricane Sandy as 16 LasikPlus^®vision centers are located in the affected region.  We also faced a very difficult comparison with the prior-year period in which year-over-year same-store procedures grew 33 percent and total procedures increased 30 percent," said LCA-Vision Chief Financial Officer Michael J. Celebrezze . "Our actions to support patient acquisition in the current market environment include refining messages and optimizing methods of delivery under our direct-to-consumer model and expanding our partner network of optometrists and other eye health professionals as referral sources."
