Eating Chocolate Linked to Lower Diabetes Risk, But There's a Catch

- Over the years, studies have attempted to back up the purported health benefits of indulgent foods and drinks like red wine and chocolate. A new study out of Harvard University shows some promising news for chocolate lovers, but it depends on what kind of chocolate you like.
The article from Men's Journal discusses a study published in the journal "Nutrients" which suggests that consuming chocolate might not increase the risk of developing diabetes, contrary to some previous beliefs. The research, conducted by scientists from the University of South Australia, analyzed data from over 1,153 participants and found that chocolate consumption was not associated with higher levels of blood glucose or insulin resistance, key factors in diabetes development. Instead, the study highlighted that the type of chocolate matters; dark chocolate, which contains higher levels of antioxidants and less sugar than milk or white chocolate, could potentially offer health benefits. The study's findings encourage a moderate intake of chocolate, particularly dark varieties, as part of a balanced diet, suggesting that chocolate lovers might not need to completely avoid their favorite treat to manage or prevent diabetes.
