Emeritus Announces Preliminary Fourth Quarter Occupancy Information

SEATTLE--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Emeritus Corporation (NYSE: ESC), a national provider of assisted living and related services to senior citizens, announced today that, excluding the 13 communities acquired by the Company on December 1, 2008, the fourth quarter 2008 average occupancy was flat with the third quarter of 2008 and the average revenue per occupied unit increased over fourth quarter 2007 by approximately 6.1%.

Mr. Granger Cobb, President and Co-CEO of Emeritus stated, "In spite of the current market turmoil, we were able to maintain occupancy levels in line with the third quarter 2008 average occupancy rate, and drive rate improvements above 6.0%."

The Company is making this announcement due to its participation in an industry and investor conference. The information in this release is preliminary, as the Company has not yet finalized its results for the fourth quarter of 2008. The Company anticipates releasing its full results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2008 on March 16, 2009.
