CHELMSFORD, Mass.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--ZOLL Medical Corporation (Nasdaq GS: ZOLL), a manufacturer of resuscitation devices and related software solutions, announced today that Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro in southern California has installed the Company's AutoPulse® Non-Invasive Cardiac Support Pump for its resuscitative capabilities in the hospital's emergency department and intensive care unit. The Los Angeles County community hospital is listed among the nation's 100 top performance leader hospitals by Solucient®, a leading source of healthcare information products.
"With the new BLS guidelines for high-quality chest compressions, the AutoPulse is extremely useful in Code Blue situations," said Greg Lund, Outpatient Supervisor and Chairman of the hospital's Code Blue Committee (Nursing). "The bottom line is that effective CPR can be done for prolonged periods of time without taxing staff, or worse, causing injury."
He added that the AutoPulse is easy to apply and fit to the patient. "We've used it for substantial amounts of time to deliver steady, proper chest compressions without rescuer fatigue, something that cannot be achieved with manual CPR." Mr. Lund has concluded that the AutoPulse is an invaluable device that allows codes to be run smoothly, even in situations in which the number of personnel may be limited. The hospital has used the AutoPulse since purchasing two units this summer.
AutoPulse helps provide the consistent chest compressions called for by the 2005 American Heart Association Guidelines. It is an automated, portable device with an easy-to-use, load-distributing LifeBand® that squeezes the entire chest in an uninterrupted "hands-free" manner, improving blood flow to the heart and brain during cardiac arrest.
