UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Hawai‘i Donates $10,000 to Support Development of a Community Health Center in Wah

HONOLULU--([ ])--UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Hawaiai has donated $10,000 to FACE (Faith Action for Community Equity) to support the development of a community health center in Wahiawa.

"The federal grant awarded last year by the federal government has enabled FACE to lay the foundation for the new Wahiawa Center for Community Health (WCCH), and these funds will help to continue the work of making the center a reality"

The Wahiawa Center for Community Health (WCCH) will help meet the medical and related needs of the underserved. The project has generated interest and support from the Wahiawa business community and local care providers, and the Hawaii Primary Care Association is helping to support the projectas development.

FACE
Faith Action for Community Equity (FACE) is the only statewide nonprofit interfaith community-organizing group in Hawaiai. Founded in 1996, membership is presently made up of 29 institutions on Oahu, 24 on Maui and one statewide. There are 38 churches, one Buddhist temple, two Jewish congregations, 10 community groups and nonprofit organizations, and one labor union. In September 2011, FACE was awarded an HRSA Planning Grant to assess the need for a Community Health Center in Wahiawa.

Wahiawa Community Health Center Project
The Wahiawa Center for Community Health (WCCH) was recently granted status as an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and is now well positioned to begin work establishing a new Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Wahiawa. WCCH is now at the point to be able to begin activities necessary to establishing the new WCCH as an FQHC and setting up the facilities, staffing, operations and all of the tasks necessary to serve the people of Wahiawa.
