This summer, Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center will make a significant leap forward in medical education by welcoming its first-ever class of internal medicine residents.

Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, California, has launched a new internal medicine residency program, marking it as the first of its kind in the Sacramento region in over 50 years. The program, which began accepting its first class of 18 residents in July 2024, aims to address the growing need for primary care physicians in the area. It offers a comprehensive three-year training curriculum that includes rotations in various specialties and emphasizes hands-on experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The initiative is supported by a partnership with the California Northstate University College of Medicine and is designed to not only train but also retain physicians in the Sacramento community, enhancing local healthcare services.
