The surgery was conducted by Dr MD Ray Department of Oncology Surgery, Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital, AIIMS Delhi, and his team
Doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi successfully removed a massive 9.2 kg tumor from a 42-year-old woman's ovary in a surgery that lasted over 10 hours. The patient, who had been experiencing abdominal pain and swelling for six months, was initially misdiagnosed with ovarian cysts. Upon further examination, a CT scan revealed the true nature of her condition. The complexity of the surgery was heightened by the tumor's size, which was larger than a full-term pregnancy, and its entanglement with vital organs like the intestines and blood vessels. The operation, led by Dr. Tarun Mittal, involved careful dissection to avoid damage to surrounding structures. Post-surgery, the patient is reported to be recovering well, with the tumor confirmed to be benign. This case highlights the importance of accurate diagnosis and the capabilities of advanced surgical techniques in managing such rare and challenging medical conditions.
