Aetna Names Michael Mathias Chief Information Officer
HARTFORD, Conn.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Aetna (NYSE: AET) today announced the appointment of Michael G. Mathias, 51, as vice president and Chief Information Officer, reporting to Executive Vice President Meg McCarthy.

As CIO, Mathias will have oversight of AIS delivery, strategy, operations, technology and architecture and will be charged with leading innovation efforts and implementing Aetnaa™s long-term technology strategy.
Mathias has served as Aetnaa™s Chief Technology Officer since 2008 and was head of AIS Enterprise Architecture from 2006 to 2008. In these roles, he was responsible for aligning Aetnaa™s technology vision with business strategy by integrating company processes with the appropriate technologies. Mathias is recognized in the information technology industry for his knowledge of database, middleware and web technologies, including their strategic implementations.
He joined Aetna in 1993 as a systems engineering manager, taking on increasingly responsible roles over time. Earlier in his career, Mathias served in various managerial, technical, and application development capacities with UBS/PaineWebber Inc., Verizon, Educational Testing Service, Macmillan Publishing, and Prudential Insurance.
