CML HealthCare Inc. Celebrates Medical Radiation Technologists Week-November 6-12, 2011

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 4, 2011) - CML HealthCare Inc. (TSX:CLC) (the "Company" or "CML"), is proud to celebrate Medical Radiation Technologists ("MRT") Week, November 6 - 12, 2011, in support of the crucial role MRTs play in the healthcare system. As the largest provider of community-based diagnostic imaging services in Canada, CML operates 105 locations (77 in Ontario, 9 in Alberta, and 19 in British Columbia) providing imaging services such as x-ray, mammogram, bone density scan, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, CT, and MRI, and employs 396 MRTs.

In support of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), CML will be sponsoring the CAMRT General Conference and the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists World Congress to be held in Toronto, Canada on June 7 – 10, 2012.

Spearheaded by CAMRT, MRT Week acknowledges the importance and value of MRTs in providing essential healthcare services to Canadians, and is an opportunity to educate the public on the profession and the important role MRTs play in medical imaging and therapeutic treatment. These nationally certified technologists and therapists are committed to providing empathetic "high-touch" care to patients, while delivering critical "high-tech" services to physicians and other healthcare professionals. MRTs are not only found at community imaging centres like CML, but also in hospitals, on the battlefields wherever the Canadian Forces are deployed, and in the dressing rooms of professional sport teams. The MRT profession today includes a diverse array of highly-trained professionals representing various technology-related disciplines in the health care field:

Radiological technologists use x-rays to produce images of body parts and systems, including CT scans, breast imaging, and operating room procedures. They are expert in the use of complex medical equipment which is used to better differentiate between normal and diseased tissue, while at the same time providing comprehensive, compassionate care to each patient.

Radiation therapists are responsible for accurately planning and administering the radiation treatment for cancer patients using radiation treatment units. Newer techniques, such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy alone or in conjunction with Image Guided Radiation Therapy, offer the most advanced forms of treating cancer from outside the body. Therapists offer ongoing care and support to patients and their families during the course of treatment.

Nuclear medicine technologists have technical expertise in the use of radiopharmaceuticals and radiation physics, which allows them to perform diagnostic imaging procedures through SPECT and PET imaging. They acquire images of various body systems which aid in identifying normal and diseased tissue, and their attention to quality assurance ensures patient safety is of foremost concern.

Magnetic resonance technologists produce diagnostic images using equipment that generates radio waves and a strong magnetic field. They apply their extensive knowledge of anatomy, pathology and physiology as well as their patient care skills in order to obtain the necessary images and monitor patients during scans.

MRTs are a vital part of the community's healthcare team. They are dedicated to making certain that all patients receive quality care when undergoing diagnostic imaging.

About CAMRT: Founded in 1942, the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) is a federation of ten provincial associations who share a common membership of over 11,000. CAMRT is the national certifying body for radiological technologists, radiation therapists, nuclear medicine technologists and magnetic resonance technologists and, as such, provides the national entry to practice certification examinations. The CAMRT is also the national professional association that represents and promotes the MRT profession and is an active participant in the Canadian health system. It offers quality professional development programs, advocates on behalf of the MRT profession, publishes the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, conducts an annual conference and develops and promotes statements of professional best practice.
