  The beloved Esquimalt Recreation Centre has reached its 50th year of providing wellness, community and opportunities for living an active lifestyle.


The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is celebrating its 50th anniversary, marking half a century of service to the community since its opening in 1973. Originally built for $1.2 million, the centre has been a pivotal part of Esquimalt, offering a range of fitness and recreational activities. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations, including a significant $10 million upgrade in 2010 which added new facilities like a pool, gym, and fitness studio. The celebration includes various events like a family fun swim, a skate party, and a special 50th anniversary open house. The centre not only serves as a hub for physical fitness but also plays a crucial role in community building, with staff and long-time members sharing fond memories and stories of its impact on their lives.
