Tractive Unveils Dog 6 & Cat 6 GPS Trackers with Health Monitoring

Austin, TX - April 8th, 2026 - Tractive, a leading innovator in pet safety technology, today unveiled its latest generation of GPS trackers: the Dog 6 and Cat 6. While location tracking remains a core function, these devices represent a significant leap forward, integrating health monitoring features and transitioning to a fully cellular connection. This evolution moves pet tracking beyond simply finding lost animals, and towards proactively understanding and improving their wellbeing.

The original Tractive trackers, while popular, relied heavily on a network of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections from user smartphones. While functional, this meant a pet's location could only be updated when within range of someone else using the Tractive app. The Dog 6 and Cat 6 eliminate this limitation with integrated cellular connectivity, providing truly real-time tracking across vast distances, regardless of nearby user presence. This is particularly crucial for adventurous dogs and curious cats prone to wandering, offering pet owners peace of mind knowing they'll always have a current location update.

"We saw a clear demand for a more comprehensive solution," explains Tractive CEO, Robert Hagemann in a pre-launch briefing. "Owners want to know how their pets are doing, not just where they are. The Dog 6 and Cat 6 are designed to bridge that gap, providing valuable insights into activity levels and sleep patterns that can help identify potential health concerns early on."

The Dog 6, aimed at larger and more active companions, boasts a reinforced, ruggedized design built to withstand the rigors of outdoor adventures. Early testing suggests improvements in battery life over previous models, though Tractive is yet to release specific figures. The Cat 6, in contrast, is designed with feline sensibilities in mind - smaller, lighter, and prioritizing comfort for even the most discerning of cats. Both devices, however, share the same core technological upgrades.

The Rise of 'Preventative Pet Care'

The addition of health monitoring, while not a replacement for veterinary care, taps into a growing trend in 'preventative pet care.' The trackers collect data on activity levels - measuring how much time a pet spends running, walking, playing, and resting - and sleep quality, analyzing duration and patterns. While not providing diagnoses, these metrics can flag deviations from a pet's normal routine, potentially indicating underlying health issues. For example, a sudden decrease in activity or a change in sleep patterns might prompt an owner to schedule a check-up with their veterinarian.

"This isn't about turning pet owners into veterinarians," stresses Dr. Anya Sharma, a veterinary behaviorist consulted during the development process. "It's about empowering them with information, giving them an extra layer of observation, and encouraging them to be more proactive about their pet's health." Dr. Sharma also notes the value of baseline data collected over time, helping owners understand their pet's individual habits and detect subtle changes more easily.

The data collected by the trackers is accessible through the Tractive app, presenting information in an easy-to-understand format. Owners can view daily, weekly, or monthly summaries of activity and sleep, and receive notifications if significant changes are detected. The app also continues to feature the virtual fence functionality, allowing owners to set safe zones and receive alerts if their pet wanders outside of designated areas.

The Subscription Model Continues

Like previous Tractive devices, accessing the full functionality of the Dog 6 and Cat 6 requires a subscription plan. While the trackers themselves function as simple location beacons without a subscription, showing only the last known location, the real-time tracking, health insights, and virtual fence features are locked behind a monthly fee. Tractive offers various subscription tiers to cater to different needs and budgets. Critics of this model argue it creates an ongoing cost of ownership, but Tractive maintains the subscription revenue is essential for maintaining the cellular network and continuously improving the service.

The Dog 6 is priced at $199.99, while the Cat 6 is available for $129.99. Both are available for pre-order now and are expected to begin shipping in late April. With the growing demand for connected pet devices, Tractive's latest offerings are poised to capture a significant share of the market, offering a compelling combination of peace of mind, proactive health monitoring, and enhanced location tracking.
