The United States is at risk of losing its malaria-free status, which it has held for 25 years, due to the emergence of locally acquired malaria cases in Florida and Texas. This development marks the first time in 20 years that malaria has been transmitted within the U.S., with five cases reported. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued an alert to healthcare providers to be vigilant for symptoms of malaria, especially in areas where local transmission has occurred.
