CIGNA Names Bert Scott to Lead U.S. Commercial Markets

BLOOMFIELD, Conn.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--CIGNA Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer David M. Cordani today announced the appointment of Bertram aBerta L. Scott as president, U.S. Commercial, CIGNA Corporation (NYSE:CI).

In this newly created position, Scott will have executive leadership responsibility for the companya™s U.S. products; marketing; national accounts; regional, individual, select and senior segments.

Scott brings nearly four decades of success in driving growth for health and financial services businesses. Most recently, he served as executive vice president and chief institutional development and sales officer of TIAA-CREF in New York, a Fortune 100 financial services company with $426 billion in combined assets under management (3/31/10), and a leading provider of retirement services in the academic, research, medical and cultural fields.

Scott began his career in 1975 with Prudential Insurance Company, where he held a number of health care and group insurance sales and marketing roles of increasing responsibility, attaining the position of vice president, managed care in 1994. In 1996, he became president and chief executive officer of the Horizon/Mercy Health Plan, a joint Medicaid managed care program between Mercy Health Plan of Pennsylvania and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Jersey. Scott joined TIAA-CREF in 2000 as president of its life insurance business, and later served as the companya™s executive vice president for product management and strategy implementation.

Scott holds a bachelora™s degree in business administration from DePaul University and participated in advanced business management programs at Harvard University, Columbia University and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), a global medical technology company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices, instrument systems and reagents. He is also member of the board of trustees of DePaul University, a member of the board of trustees of University of North Carolina Charlotte, and a member of the board of directors of the Foundation For The Carolinas.
