SilverSneakers, the nationas leading exercise and social support program designed to keep seniors healthy, has been offered to Humana Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement members since 2004. Currently, more than 2.1 million Humana members are eligible to participate in SilverSneakers.

Using proven methodologies based upon more than 16 years of science and outcomes, the SilverSneakers Fitness Program increases physical activity in older adults, often resulting in higher well-being and lower health care costs. Humana SilverSneakers participants also reported reductions in pain experienced due to arthritis, lower back problems and sciatica, while 87 percent of new enrollees indicated that they exercised more than twice as often in 2011 as they had prior to joining the fitness program.

This important extension not only reflects Humanaas steadfastness to the health and well-being of their older adult population, but is also a testament to a great working partnership between Humana and Healthways.a

The SilverSneakers Fitness Program was founded in 1993 and is available to more than 9 million Medicare beneficiaries through many Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplement carriers and group retiree plans.
