The deputy's brief detention comes at a time of increased fear of racial profiling by ICE.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) mistakenly detained a U.S. Marshal in Phoenix, Arizona, after confusing him for a suspect they were pursuing. The incident occurred when ICE agents, acting on a lead, approached the marshal, who was in plain clothes and driving an unmarked vehicle, and detained him at gunpoint. The marshal was released after his identity was confirmed, and the event has sparked discussions about the need for better coordination between different law enforcement agencies to prevent such errors. ICE has acknowledged the mistake and stated that they are reviewing their procedures to ensure it does not happen again.
