A free local medical treatment center for veterans and first responders with traumatic brain injuries is losing its biggest source of funding. The Tulane University Center for Brain Health has helped hundreds of service members since 2020.

The Tulane Center for Brain Health, which provides free care to veterans with brain injuries, is facing a significant financial challenge as its largest funding source, the Humana Foundation, has decided to redirect its funding priorities away from the center. This decision comes after the foundation supported the center for 12 years, contributing to the treatment of over 1,000 veterans. The cessation of this funding threatens the center's ability to continue offering free services, potentially impacting the care for veterans with traumatic brain injuries, PTSD, and other related conditions. The center's director, Dr. Thomas Kent, expressed concerns about the future, noting that while they are seeking alternative funding, the immediate loss of this major support could lead to a reduction in services or even closure if new funds are not secured.
