Aetna Awarded $72,500 to Nevada Nonprofits in 2008

LAS VEGAS--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Aetna (NYSE: AET) and the Aetna Foundation in 2008 awarded community grants and sponsorships in Nevada totaling $72,500,with a particular focus on disease prevention and children.

The contributions support Aetna's commitment to enhancing the quality of health care, and reducing racial and ethnic disparities. In total, Aetna and the Aetna Foundation awarded more than $25 million nationally in 2008.

The four grant recipients were:

  • University Medical Center;
  • The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation;
  • Sight for Life; and
  • American Heart Association.

"As a responsible corporate citizen, we recognize our obligation to help address these critical needs."

The Aetna Foundation awarded a $40,000 grant to the UMC Partners in Excellence Foundation, Inc. to provide transport incubators and monitors for the pediatric emergency room and intensive care unit at the University Medical Center.

The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation received a $17,500 grant to support the Foundation's mission of transforming U.S. public education for underserved youth by engaging in practice, policy and partnerships that provide quality education and enrichment opportunities.

Under a $10,000 grant, Sight for Life continued providing treatment to residents of Nevada that had a treatable sight-threatening disease or injury, regardless of their ability to pay.

Aetna awarded a $5,000 grant to the American Heart Association for the Go Red for Women luncheon that educated women about heart disease.
