EDINA, Minn.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Tornier N.V. (NASDAQ: TRNX), a global leader in extremity orthopaedics, today announced it will highlight six new products at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons 2011 Annual Meeting (aAAOSa) being held February 15-19 in San Diego, CA. The six new Tornier products address a range of joint replacement, joint repair, and soft tissue repair needs of upper and lower extremity specialist surgeons and their patients.

Doug Kohrs, President and CEO of Tornier, commented, aAt this yeara™s AAOS, we are introducing six new products featuring innovative designs and materials, not just modifications of existing products. All of our extremity products and surgical techniques are developed in close collaboration with specialists on the leading edge of surgical science who are committed to addressing the clinical needs of their patients.a

The Ascenda" Shoulder is a bone-sparing implant system that incorporates a ashort stema that has been designed to match the internal contours of the humerus, minimize bone removal, and avoid the disruption of tendons that are vital to shoulder joint function. The Ascend Shoulder is available both in the United States and Europe.

The Simplicitia" Shoulder is an innovative new implant system that is based on a astem-lessa design. The Simpliciti is approved for use in Europe, and is an investigational device in the United States. The Simpliciti clinical trial is one of the first FDA-regulated clinical studies conducted in the United States for a shoulder arthroplasty system.

The InSpyrea" Shoulder is a minimally invasive shoulder implant based on Torniera™s pyrocarbon material technology. A spherical, stemless design, the InSpyre prosthesis is a single component system requiring no glenoid implant due to the unique soft tissue compatibility of the companya™s pyrocarbon technology that is characterized by favorable implant-on-bone and implant-on-soft tissue fatigue and wear characteristics. The InSpyre shoulder implant is currently available for sale in Europe and is not approved for sale in the United States.

The Stabilisa" Ankle Fusion System provides surgeons with multiple plating options to stabilize the ankle joint for fusion procedures. The plating options allow for either anterior or lateral surgical approaches and include advanced instrumentation featuring controlled distraction and compression, as well as unique cutting guides that reduce variability in joint positioning. The Stabilis system also incorporates Torniera™s patented Coverloca" technology which reduces screw prominence and allows for plate compression to the bone. The Stabilis is available in the United States.

The Wavea" Calcaneal Fracture Plate is the first such system to allow for a less invasive approach compared to a traditionally large aLa flap incision. By reducing the incision for calcaneal fracture repair, wound healing complication risks are reduced. The Wave Plate also matches the complex geometry of the calcaneus, which aids in the restoration of the bonea™s height, length and width. The Wave is available in the United States.

The 2.8 Pitona" Soft Tissue FixationImplant is an innovative new anchoring device for the secure reattachment of soft tissue to bone. Its small, minimally invasive insertion footprint and unique laser markings make it ideal for the arthroscopic treatment of challenging rotator cuff tears, with minimal disruption to either tendon or bone. The 2.8 Piton is available in the United States and Europe.

Also during this yeara™s AAOS Meeting, Tornier will highlight new arthroscopic techniques for rotator cuff repair with biologic reinforcement grafts. Working with a team of sports medicine surgeons, Tornier has developed several efficient techniques to deploy its Conexaa" Reconstructive Tissue Matrix using Torniera™s proprietary Piton anchors, as well as its minimally invasive ArthroTunnelera" anchorless rotator cuff repair system. The Piton, ArthroTunneler, and Conexa are available in the United States and Europe.
