Alliance Oncology Appoints John J. Kresl, M.D., Ph.D., to Chief Medical Officer
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Alliance Oncology, a division of Alliance HealthCare Services, Inc. (NYSE:AIQ), has named John J. Kresl, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Kresl will join Alliance on Dec. 1, 2010, and will report to Richard Hall, President of Alliance Oncology.

Dr. Kresl is a highly experienced radiation oncologist, most recently serving as the Medical Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz. His roles were comprised of private practice as a managing partner for five radiation therapy centers in Arizona, extensive leadership responsibilities in a variety of radiation oncology professional organizations and advisory/founding positions in two healthcare companies.
Dr. Kresl received his BS with honors from the University of Wisconsin, and then pursued a combined M.D., PhD. program in Molecular and Immunological Tumor Cell Biology at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. Once he completed his medical training, he pursued a career in both clinical medicine and radiation oncology research.
After completing his residency training in Radiation Oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.,Dr. Kresl settled in Arizona in 1998. He joined a group practice, Radiation Oncologists of Central Arizona (ROCA), where he is a managing partner and practices today. He has also been affiliated with St. Josepha™s Hospital and Barrow Neurological Institute, where he was the Vice Chairman and Attending Staff Physician for the Department of Radiation Oncology. While there, Dr. Kresl helped run the Gamma Knife Center and brought in CyberKnife technology to establish and direct the CyberKnife Center. He became well-known for his expertise with these radiosurgery technologies, and he was instrumental in helping to start the CyberKnife Society, a multi-disciplinary non-profit organization of surgeons, radiation oncologists, physicists and allied professionals dedicated to advancing the science and clinical practice of radiosurgery. Dr. Kresl has been the principal investigator and co-investigator on clinical protocol investigations and has published over 100 abstracts, manuscripts, book chapters and textbooks related to the field of radiation oncology. He has been a visiting professor at a number of medical centers in the US and abroad and is frequently an invited lecturer at seminars throughout the world.
Dr. Kresl is a very active participant in all of the professional organizations that serve the radiation oncology community of physicians. He is involved with the American Society for Radiation Oncology, the American College of Radiology, the American College of Radiation Oncology, the CyberKnife Society, the Novalis Circle, the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society and the Council of Affiliated Regional Radiation Oncology Societies.
