Aetna Grants More Than $75,000 to Utah Nonprofits in 2009
SALT LAKE CITY--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Aetna (NYSE: AET) and the Aetna Foundation in 2009 awarded community grants and sponsorships in Utah totaling $77,500, with a particular focus on disease prevention, obesity and health screening.

The contributions support Aetnaa™s commitment to enhancing the quality of health care, and reducing racial and ethnic disparities. In total, the Aetna Foundation, Aetna and its employees, awarded more than $24 million nationally in 2009.
The six Utah grant recipients were:
- The American Lung Association of the Southwest, Inc.;
- Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation;
- Special Olympics;
- Communidades Unidas;
- Utah Families Foundation; and
- National Alliance on Mental Health Illness.

The Aetna Foundation awarded a $25,000 sponsorship to the American Lung Association for the Lung Walk and Tackle the Tower as well as the Not-On-Tobacco program for high school students.
Aetna awarded a $20,000 sponsorship of the 2009 Tri-County Walk to Cure Diabetes. The walk raises money for research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications.
Under a $15,000 grant, Special Olympics-Utah is planning to produce three state-level competitions in the fall and winter of 2010.
Communidades Unidas received a $10,000 grant for their Mexican Consulate Health Booth Project, which will provide screenings, counseling, referrals and health education to 10,000 indigent and underserved immigrants in Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
Aetna awarded a $5,000 sponsorship to the Utah Families Foundation Golf Challenge. The money raised from the Golf Challenge will be given to womena™s and childrena™s charities throughout Utah.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness received a $2,500 sponsorship for the NAMIWalks to raise awareness and funding for mental health awareness.
