Magellan Health Services Names David W. Carter Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications
AVON, Conn.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Magellan Health Services, Inc. (Nasdaq:MGLN) today announced the appointment of David W. Carter as senior vice president of marketing and communications. In this role, he will be responsible for conceptualizing, developing and implementing a proactive, strategically-driven marketing and communications function in support of Magellana™s business strategy. Specifically, Carter will be accountable for comprehensive internal and external communications, including marketing and executive communications, public relations, corporate brand management and community relations. He will join the company on August 30, 2010, and will report to Ren© Lerer, M.D., Chairman and CEO.

Carter, 50, comes to Magellan after having spent a decade at Aetna, Inc., where he currently is vice president of corporate communications. In that role, he leads the development and implementation of internal and external communications strategies to enhance corporate visibility and brand reputation. Prior to joining Aetna, David served in a number of senior communications and public affairs roles in Washington, D.C. He was appointed by former President Bill Clinton to serve as vice president for the Office of Communications at the Export-Import Bank of the U.S. He also served as deputy general manager and senior vice president of The Wexler Group, a unit of Hill & Knowlton, a leading international communications and public affairs firm, and as a staff member in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Carter is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Penn. An active member of his community, he is the incoming president of the board of directors of the American School for the Deaf in West Harford, Conn., among other outreach activities.
