AMIRIM, Israel, May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Via Surgical Ltd., a leading developer of hernia mesh fixation technologies, announced today that it has appointed Karl A. LeBlanc, MD, MBA, FACS and David B. Earle MD, FACS as Medical Advisors.

Dr. Karl LeBlanc, past president of the American Hernia Society, commented, "The SutureLAP[TM] device is the first truly new innovation in mesh fixation since I performed the first laparoscopic incisional hernia repair. I believe that this fixation method is the type of fastener that we need for these procedures."

Dr. LeBlanc is a pioneer in minimally invasive surgery. LeBlanc performed the first laparoscopic incisional hernia in 1991 and has since written three medical texts and has published more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed medical literature; he has played a major role in changing the surgical approach to hernia treatment and the use of laparoscopic techniques. LeBlanc is a Director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Institute in Baton Rouge, La., and Clinical Professor of Surgery at Louisiana State University in New Orleans.

Dr. David B Earle is a director of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Baystate Medical Center Springfield, MA. and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Tufts School of Medicine. Earle has had many leadership roles in the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and is currently on the Board of Governors of the American Hernia Society.

"The SutureLAP is the obvious next generation product for mesh fixation. By changing the actual fixation, they are able to provide features such as articulation with a short, strong lever arm and suture-like fixation, currently not possible with more rigid tacks," said Dr. Earle.

Ofek Levin Founder and CEO of Via Surgical commented, "The support and feedback we are receiving from the medical community is outstanding, we have initiated an investment round for making the SutureLAP[TM] commercially available during 2013."

About Via Surgical Ltd.

Via Surgical was founded by the winners of BIZTEC07, Israel national entrepreneurship competition and the founders of PolyTouch Medical - recently acquired by Covidien (NYSE: COV). Realizing the need for an improved hernia mesh fixation solution, Via Surgical has developed SutureLAP[TM], a novel hernia mesh fixation device with the potential to significantly improve clinical outcomes.
