FORTIS: Fortis holding confirms negotiations with Belgian government and BNP Paribas

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM--(Marketwire - January 28, 2009) -

Yesterday, the interim report of the committee of experts was published. In this report the experts recommend that several significant elements of the agreements made on 3, 5 and 6 October 2008 be renegotiated.

Fortis holding confirms that it has started negotiations with the Belgian government and BNP Paribas in this respect.

Fortis holding will refrain from giving any further comment during these negotiations.

Fortis holding (Fortis SA/NV and Fortis N.V.) consists of (1) Fortis Insurance Belgium (2) Fortis Insurance International, and (3) financial assets and liabilities of various financing vehicles.
