RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ Health Net Federal Services ], LLC, part of the Government Contracts segment of [ Health Net, Inc. ] (NYSE:HNT), today announced it was awarded a contract by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide Chief Business Office (CBO) Outpatient Recovery Audit Services of VA payments made for the Outpatient Non-VA Fee Care Program, the Civilian Health and Medical Program (CHAMPVA), and the Spinal Bifida (SB) and Children of Women Vietnam Veterans (CWVV) programs. The new contract is effective September 1, 2010, and has a one-year initial term with two additional one-year option periods.

The purpose of the contract is to identify and recover improper outpatient care payments based on billing and procedural inconsistency as compared to health industry standards and VA policy, law and regulations. The reviews include collecting and analyzing payment and medical documentation for VA payments, determining improper payments, reporting results, establishing debts and completing follow-up recovery actions.
