A study published in the journal BJU International has found that men with low testosterone levels may have an increased risk of developing kidney stones. The research, which analyzed data from over 1,500 men, showed that those with the lowest testosterone levels had a 40% higher risk of kidney stones compared to men with normal levels. The study suggests that testosterone may play a role in regulating calcium and phosphate metabolism, which could explain the link to kidney stone formation. The findings highlight the importance of monitoring testosterone levels in men, particularly those with a history of kidney stones, and suggest that testosterone replacement therapy might be beneficial in reducing the risk of kidney stones in men with low testosterone.
