NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - August 6, 2009) - Allied Healthcare International Inc. (NASDAQ: [ AHCI ]) (AIM: AHI) ([ http://www.alliedhealthcare.com ]), a leading provider of flexible healthcare staffing services in the United Kingdom, has been awarded a new three-year contract by East Lothian Council in Scotland.

Under the new East Lothian contract, Allied has the opportunity to deliver up to one thousand five hundred(1) hours of home care services a week [78,000(1) hours a year], as one of three providers within East Lothian, a region East of Edinburgh with a population of 94,000. This award, which was secured in April 2009, has successfully completed its implementation phase and is already delivering on-target hours growth.

"This is a notable success for the company," said Sandy Young, Allied Healthcare Chief Executive Officer. "With this award, the Council not only reduced its external providers from six to three but we were successful despite no previous representation in the area. This is a further example of our ongoing initiative to establish long-term contracts within new territories. The new opening will also provide us with a branch from which we can service our growing Continuing Care and Learning Disabilities businesses. I look forward to updating our shareholders on further new territory wins as this initiative progresses."
