    • Republicans at the New Hampshire State House are expanding the scope of a parental rights bill to include information from doctors and health care, in addition to schools.

The New Hampshire House of Representatives passed a bill with a vote of 188-185 that aims to expand parental rights by requiring schools to notify parents if their child is using a different name or pronoun at school. The bill, which has sparked controversy, also mandates that schools must inform parents if their child seeks mental or physical health care services. Proponents of the bill argue that it reinforces parental rights and involvement in their children's lives, while opponents, including Democrats and advocacy groups, contend that it could endanger transgender and nonbinary students by outing them to potentially unsupportive parents. The bill now moves to the state Senate for further consideration.
