Scientists have detected a cancer-linked chemical, diethanolamine (DEA), in widely used skincare and makeup products, raising concerns about the safety of these items. A study conducted by the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) found DEA in products from popular brands like CoverGirl, L'Oréal, and Clearasil, among others. DEA, which is used as a foaming agent and to adjust pH levels, can react with other chemicals to form nitrosamines, known carcinogens. The presence of DEA in these products, which are used daily by millions, underscores the need for stricter regulations and more transparent labeling to protect consumers from potential health risks.
