  • There's an increase of ticks this year and increase in percentage of ticks that test positive for Lyme disease and Babesiosis: Health Dept.

The Branford Health Department has reported a significant increase in tick activity and Lyme disease cases in the area, urging residents to take precautions against tick bites. According to the department, the number of ticks has risen due to favorable weather conditions, leading to a higher incidence of Lyme disease, with 15 cases reported so far this year compared to only 5 cases at the same time last year. The health department recommends wearing protective clothing, using insect repellents, and performing thorough tick checks after spending time outdoors, especially in wooded or grassy areas. They also advise residents to be aware of the symptoms of Lyme disease, which include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic bull's-eye rash, and to seek medical attention if they suspect they have been infected.
