Dodgers make announcement on franchise legend after scary health news

The Los Angeles Dodgers have issued a statement after a franchise record-holder was sent to the hospital.

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that they will honor franchise legend and Hall of Famer Fernando Valenzuela by retiring his jersey number 34 during a three-day celebration called "Fernandomania" from August 11-13, 2023. This decision comes after Valenzuela suffered a scary health scare when he was hospitalized due to an unspecified illness in early June. Valenzuela, who played for the Dodgers from 1980 to 1990, was a key figure in the team's success during that period, winning the Rookie of the Year and Cy Young Awards in 1981, and helping the Dodgers win the World Series that same year. The celebration will include a drone show, a replica ring giveaway, and a bobblehead giveaway, all in honor of Valenzuela's contributions to the team and the sport.
