SAN CARLOS, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Natus Medical Incorporated (Nasdaq:BABY) today announced that it has received a significant purchase order from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the Companya™s newborn care products.

"The significant commitment to our combination Cool-Cap and CFM technology is also a very positive development in establishing selective head cooling as a standard of care outside of the United States for the treatment of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy."

The order, which is valued at over $2.7 million, was received from the Companya™s distribution partner working with the Saudi Ministry of Health. The order is for ALGO newborn hearing screeners, Cool-Cap selective head-cooling devices, and Olympic Cerebral Function Monitors (CFM). The order is expected to ship by the end of the year.

aI am very pleased that this purchase of a large quantity of our ALGO newborn hearing screeners will result in many more babies being screened for hearing loss at birth,a said Jim Hawkins, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company. aThe significant commitment to our combination Cool-Cap and CFM technology is also a very positive development in establishing selective head cooling as a standard of care outside of the United States for the treatment of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.a

aIn June we also shipped a $1.6 million order directly to the Iraq Ministry of Health for our neoBLUE phototherapy devices and disposable supplies,a Hawkins added. aWe are very pleased to see Ministries of Health putting such a strong emphasis on newborn care. We are hopeful this will continue throughout the region.a

ALGO screeners are the recognized gold standard in newborn hearing screening with clinically proven and well documented sensitivity and specificity. ALGO screeners incorporate Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) technology that screens the entire hearing pathway and has been validated in over 100 peer-reviewed clinical studies. The Olympic CFM is used in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and other acute care departments within the hospital to continuously monitor an infant's brain activity, enabling clinical staff to assess the neurological status of the brain as an aid to both diagnosis and treatment. The Olympic Cool-Cap system provides selective head cooling to prevent or reduce the severity of neurologic injury associated with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) in newborns.
