WASHINGTON--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Finkelstein Thompson LLP announces that it is investigating potential shareholder claims on behalf of Almost Family, Inc. (Nasdaq: AFAM) (aAlmost Familya or the aCompanya).

On April 26, 2010, The Wall Street Journal published an article questioning whether certain home health-care companies, including Almost Family, were taking advantage of the Medicare reimbursement system. Several weeks later, on July 1, 2010, Almost Family announced that it had received a civil subpoena for documents and notice of investigation from the Securities and Exchange Commission related to the Companya™s reimbursements under the Medicare home health prospective payment system.

According to a recently-filed securities fraud class action complaint, Almost Familya™s management engaged in a scheme to intentionally increase the number of in-home therapy visits to patients to obtain higher reimbursement rates under the Medicare home health prospective payment system although such excess visits were not always medically necessary. Through this alleged scheme, the complaint alleges that the Companya™s reported sales and earnings were artificially inflated and are subject to be recouped by Medicare.
