Filmmakers Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger made a total of 10 trips to Afghanistana™s Korengal Valley, starting in June 2007, to chronicle the deployment of Battle Company of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, a platoon of 15 U.S. soldiers. Hetherington and Junger assimilated with the soldiers, doing everything they did except pull guard duty and shoot back during combat. This documentary, which includes moving interviews with the soldiers after their deployment ended, is the story of the men who have come to be known, in their own words, as the atip of the speara of Americaa™s efforts in that region.
