MINNEAPOLIS--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) announced today $750,000 in grants through the Medtronic Foundation to support continued healthcare infrastructure development in Haiti.

Partners in Health will receive $500,000 to help complete construction of a public hospital in the Central Plateau city of Mirebalais. The newly constructed Mirebalais Hospital will improve clinical care and technical capacity, allow for a wider array of diagnostics and therapeutics, and serve as a major teaching hospital to train nurses, medical students and resident physicians.

International Medical Corps will receive $250,000 to work with Haitia™s Ministry of Public Health and Population to develop professional development and training programs for practicing physicians in primary healthcare areas (e.g., pediatrics, infectious diseases and obstetrics), and to develop policies that will improve healthcare delivery systems at the community level.

The $750,000 in grants fulfills Medtronica™s $2.1 million commitment made in the aftermath of the January 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti. Earlier this year, the company donated more than $1.35 million in cash and product donations to address immediate recovery and healthcare needs.
