COPPELL, Texas--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ Mannatech, Incorporated ] (NASDAQ: [ MTEX ]), a global pioneer in the development of high-quality [ health ], [ weight and fitness ], and [ skin care solutions ] based on [ nutritional science ], announced the results of a recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial that investigated the effect of its reformulated creatine-free [ EMaPACT ]®sports drink.

"Placebo-controlled, human clinical studies such as this one from Dr. Byars are the gold standard in nutritional research. They validate Mannatecha™s commitment to science and Real Food TechnologySM solutions"

When EMaPACT drink mix was first studied in 2006, the authors concluded that the Mannatech sports supplement could aprovide meaningful practical applications for coaches and athletes regarding possible alternative hydration optionsa prior to aerobic workouts.1 The published study was indexed by [ PubMed.gov ], the medical literature search engine most commonly used by health care providers and sponsored by the [ U.S. Department of Health & Human Servicesa™ National Institutes of Health. ]

Four years later, this [ new independent study ] shows that a single serving of a revised formulation of the EMaPACT sports drink provides the same benefits as the original formulation--enhancing indices of aerobic performance. The product significantly increased maximal oxygen consumption, time to exhaustion and percentage of estimated non-protein fat substrate utilization of the college students who took part in the study. Estimated non-protein substrate utilization in this study indicated that energy was obtained from the burning of fat, rather than carbohydrates within the muscle during exercise. Associate Professor of Kinesiology at Angelo State University [ Dr. Allyn Byars ]published both the 2006 and 2010 findings in the [ Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition ].2

aThis study performed by Dr. Byars, an expert in the field of exercise physiology, confirms that Mannatecha™s creatine-free EMaPACT product, which meets the compliance standards of various athletic organizations that regulate the use of dietary supplements, is as effective as the original formulation,a said [ Robert A. Sinnott, MNS, Ph.D., co-chief executive officer and chief science officer of Mannatech ]. aThe enhanced aerobic performance noted with the study participants shows that anyone interested in improving their athletic performance should consider including the EMaPACT productin their workout regimen.a *

This study, funded by [ Mannatech ], included 29 male and female college students who varied in levels of aerobic fitness. Dr. Byars performed a randomized crossover administration EMaPACT drink mix and placebo 30 minutes prior to performing a treadmill test with approximately one week separation between the trials in an effort to measure affects on maximal oxygen consumption and heart rate, time to exhaustion and the percentage of estimated non-protein fat substrate utilization.

Its conclusion was the modified EMaPACT drink mix formulation utilized in this investigation supports the findings of the previous investigation and its efficacy for enhancing indices of aerobic performance (specifically maximal oxygen consumption, time to exhaustion and fat substrate) during graded exercise testing.

aPlacebo-controlled, human clinical studies such as this one from Dr. Byars are the gold standard in nutritional research. They validate Mannatecha™s commitment to science and Real Food TechnologySM solutions,a said Sinnott. aAs the pioneer of nutritional glycobiology and supporter of athletics globally, we will continue to be a leader in the field of validated sports nutrition.a

The newly formulated creatine-free EMaPACT drink mix will be available from Mannatech in July.
