Wilmington Marathon course, traffic delays and cold weather: What you need to know for Saturday

  • Nearly 5,000 runners are expected to fill the streets of the Port City Saturday for the 15th annual Wilmington Marathon.

The Wilmington Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, will impact traffic with road closures and delays starting at 6:30 a.m. and lasting until 2:30 p.m. The marathon route spans from downtown Wilmington to Wrightsville Beach, affecting areas like Market Street, Eastwood Road, and the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. Participants and spectators should prepare for cold weather, with temperatures expected to be in the 30s to low 40s, and dress accordingly. Runners are advised to wear layers, and there will be warming stations along the route. Additionally, the event will feature a half marathon, marathon relay, and a 5K, with the marathon starting at 7:00 a.m. and the 5K at 7:15 a.m.
