  • The U.S. Army announced a new physical fitness test, including gender-neutral standards for soldiers in 21 combat jobs and no longer includes the "yeet." Here's what to know.

The U.S. Army has introduced a new fitness test, the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT), designed to better prepare soldiers for combat by assessing their physical readiness more comprehensively than the previous Army Physical Fitness Test. The ACFT, set to become the official test of record in October 2020, includes six events: a three-repetition maximum deadlift, a standing power throw, hand-release push-ups, a sprint-drag-carry, a leg tuck or plank hold, and a two-mile run. This new test aims to evaluate soldiers' strength, power, endurance, and agility, and is intended to be more inclusive, allowing for different body types and fitness levels. The Army has been conducting field tests of the ACFT since 2018, and the results have shown that it is a more challenging and effective measure of combat readiness.
