Colorado health care providers fight to save community health workers program from budget axe

More than two dozen health care organizations are urging Colorado lawmakers debating the budget to spare a program that they say will save the state money.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has allocated $1.7 million to fund a new Community Health Workers program, aimed at improving health outcomes and reducing health disparities across the state. The program is expected to launch in the fall of 2023, with the goal of building a sustainable model that can be expanded in future years.
