  • President Donald Trump's health secretary gave mixed messages Wednesday on whether children should be vaccinated and defended a brutal series of budget cuts in a grilling by congressional Democrats. The hearing -- ostensibly about Trump's 2026 budget proposal -- offered Democrats a chance to pressure Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on layoffs, budget cuts and a measles outbreak that has killed three children and sickened more than a thousand.

In a recent House Oversight Committee hearing, Democrats sharply criticized former President Donald Trump's controversial health care executive order from 2020, which aimed to protect individuals with preexisting conditions but was seen by critics as undermining the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Witnesses at the hearing, including health policy experts, testified that the executive order did not effectively address the needs of those with preexisting conditions and could have led to increased healthcare costs and reduced coverage. The hearing highlighted ongoing tensions over healthcare policy and the future of the ACA, with Democrats emphasizing the need for comprehensive reforms to ensure affordable and accessible healthcare for all Americans.
