Toxic forever chemicals found in some smartwatch wristbands
- PFAS, also known as Forever Chemicals, are a large family of more than 10,000 chemicals that don't occur in nature. The post Toxic forever chemicals found in some smartwatch wristbands appeared first on Talker.
The article from MSN discusses a study published in the journal *Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety* which found that some smartwatch wristbands contain toxic "forever chemicals" known as PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). These chemicals, which do not break down easily in the environment, were detected in wristbands made from various materials like rubber, plastic, and leather. The study tested 14 wristbands from different brands and found that 13 of them contained PFAS, with concentrations varying significantly. Notably, wristbands made from recycled materials had the highest levels of these chemicals. PFAS are linked to health issues like cancer, liver damage, and immune system effects, raising concerns about the safety of wearing these devices close to the skin for extended periods. The findings suggest a need for further investigation into the materials used in wearable technology and their potential health impacts.
