The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said on Tuesday it was setting most-favored-nation prescription drug pricing targets following an executive order by President Donald Trump. The target price "is the lowest price in an OECD country with a GDP per capita of at least 60 percent of the U.S. GDP per capita," the department said in a statement. Trump signed a wide-reaching executive order last week directing drugmakers to lower the prices of their medicines to align with what other countries pay that analysts and legal experts said would be difficult to implement.

The U.S. health authorities are set to approve updated COVID-19 booster shots targeting the XBB.1.5 variant, with an advisory panel recommending their use for individuals aged 5 and above, and emergency use for children aged 6 months to 4 years. These new boosters from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are expected to be available soon, following a final decision by the FDA and CDC. The updated vaccines aim to address the evolving nature of the virus, with the XBB.1.5 variant currently accounting for a significant portion of new cases in the U.S. This move is part of ongoing efforts to manage the spread and impact of COVID-19, with health officials emphasizing the importance of staying up-to-date with vaccinations to protect against severe illness.
