  • It's hard to imagine, but research is showing that owning a pet could be beneficial for your gut microbiome, and thus your gastrointestinal health.

A study from the University of Helsinki found that dog owners have a higher presence of beneficial bacteria like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium in their gut, which are known to support digestive health and boost the immune system. The study suggests that the regular interaction with dogs, including physical contact and shared environments, contributes to this microbial diversity. Additionally, dog owners tend to engage in more outdoor activities, further enhancing their exposure to diverse microbes that can benefit gut health.
