Public health and civil rights organizations ask RFK Jr. to reconsider health agency layoffs

Public health and civil rights organizations, including the American Public Health Association and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, have collectively urged President Joe Biden to declare racism as a public health crisis through a formal proclamation. In a letter dated June 29, these groups emphasized the severe impact of racism on health outcomes, citing that it leads to significant disparities such as Black women being three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. The organizations argue that acknowledging racism as a public health crisis would facilitate the allocation of necessary resources and the implementation of policies to address these disparities, ultimately aiming to improve health equity across the nation.
