A recent study published in the journal "Brain, Behavior, and Immunity" has highlighted another health benefit of turmeric supplements, specifically in relation to mental health. The research, conducted by scientists from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), found that turmeric, through its active compound curcumin, can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. The study involved participants who were given either curcumin supplements or a placebo over a period of 12 weeks. Results showed that those who received curcumin experienced a notable decrease in depressive symptoms compared to the placebo group. This adds to the growing body of evidence supporting turmeric's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which are believed to influence neurotransmitter function and brain health, potentially offering a natural alternative or complement to traditional antidepressants.
