  • Authorities investigating the deaths of at least 60 people in northwestern Congo suspect the water source in one of the areas may have been contaminated, the World Health Organization said Friday.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has indicated that water contamination is suspected in one of the villages in the Democratic Republic of Congo where an illness outbreak has occurred. This outbreak has led to the deaths of at least 15 people and has affected over 100 individuals in the village of Mangina, located in North Kivu province. The symptoms reported include vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches. The WHO, along with local health authorities, is investigating the source of the contamination, which might be linked to the village's water supply. Efforts are underway to provide clean water, medical treatment, and to conduct further tests to confirm the exact cause of the outbreak.
