  • Health officials are continuing to investigate a deadly "mysterious" disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo that has sickened 376 people and killed at least 79.

A mysterious illness in Congo has resulted in 79 deaths, primarily affecting children under 15, with symptoms including fever, headaches, and vomiting. The outbreak, which started in late March in the village of Muma, has seen 176 cases reported across 24 villages in the Kabondo area. Despite the high mortality rate, the World Health Organization (WHO) has not yet identified the cause, though they have ruled out Ebola and other known viral hemorrhagic fevers. Efforts are underway to collect samples for further analysis, and local health measures include discouraging traditional burials to prevent potential spread. The WHO has also noted that the symptoms do not match any known disease patterns, complicating the identification process.
