Exercise Cuts Cancer Death Risk by Over a Third: Study Finds

A study presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting has found that engaging in regular exercise can reduce the risk of death from cancer by over a third. The research, which analyzed data from over 1 million participants across nine prospective cohort studies, showed that individuals who met the World Health Organization's recommended levels of physical activity had a 31% lower risk of dying from cancer compared to those who were inactive. The study highlighted the importance of both aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercises in reducing cancer mortality, suggesting that a combination of these activities could offer the greatest benefits. The findings underscore the significant role that physical activity can play in cancer prevention and management, encouraging healthcare providers to promote exercise as part of cancer care strategies.
