The Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission has unveiled a comprehensive five-year master plan aimed at enhancing park facilities and services. Key projects include the construction of a new recreation center in Ypsilanti Township, which will feature a gym, fitness center, and community rooms, with construction set to begin in 2025. Another significant initiative is the renovation of the Sharon Mills County Park farmhouse into a visitor center, expected to be completed by 2026. The plan also outlines improvements in accessibility, environmental sustainability, and community engagement, with goals to increase park usage, promote health and wellness, and ensure equitable access to recreational opportunities. Additionally, the plan includes the development of new trails, upgrades to existing parks, and the introduction of new programs to foster community involvement and environmental education.
